Its requirements apply to vehicles manufactured or imported from January 1, 2025, although the regulation allows for full or partial early compliance, under Article 49.<\/p>\n\n<h2>What is the ETA (Self-Adhesive Label)?<\/h2>\n<p>The ETA is the self-adhesive label stipulated in item IX of article 4 of the resolution, applied by manufacturers and importers to reinforce vehicle identification. Article 8 of Resolution 968\/2022 determines that every ETA must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contain, at a minimum, the VIS (part of the vehicle identification number);<\/li>\n<li>Be self-adhesive;<\/li>\n<li>Be destructible if removal is attempted;<\/li>\n<li>Be weather-resistant;<\/li>\n<li>Contain at least one additional security feature besides destructibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2>Why does the regulation exist?<\/h2>\n<p>Reliable vehicle identification is one of the main tools in combating the tampering and illegal sale of vehicles and parts. A label that breaks or fragments when removed makes fraudulent replacement of the identification more difficult, protecting the vehicle&#039;s history and origin\u2014which is important to manufacturers, end consumers, and insurance companies alike.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Who needs to comply?<\/h2>\n<p>The requirement falls on manufacturers and importers of motor vehicles, who need to apply the ETA in accordance with the resolution before commercialization.
